Felipe Ferreira Sentenced for Selling Firearms, Boston MA, 2024

A Brazilian national was sentenced yesterday in federal court in Boston for selling 11 firearms, including one equipped with a large capacity magazine and another with an obliterated serial number. Felipe Ferreira, 32, of Boston, was sentenced to four years in prison and ordered to pay a fine of $10,000.

Ferreira pleaded guilty in November 2023 to one count of selling a firearm with an obliterated serial number and one count of selling a firearm with a large capacity magazine. The charges were brought as part of the Joint Firearms Trafficking Task Force, a multi-agency effort to combat firearms trafficking in the region.

According to court documents, Ferreira sold the firearms to a confidential informant on multiple occasions between February 2022 and April 2023. The firearms included a .40 caliber pistol with a large capacity magazine and a .45 caliber pistol with an obliterated serial number.

The investigation was led by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) with assistance from the Boston Police Department and the United States Marshals Service. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney George Varghese of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Massachusetts.

Ferreira’s sentence is a result of the ongoing efforts to combat firearms trafficking in the region. The Joint Firearms Trafficking Task Force has disrupted numerous firearms trafficking operations and has taken numerous firearms off the streets.
