A Boston man is paying the price for his role in smuggling dozens of firearms from Alabama to Massachusetts. Jahquel Pringle, 26, was sentenced to 42 months in prison and three years of supervised release for his involvement in the conspiracy.
Pringle was caught transporting at least 24 firearms from Alabama to Boston, with some of the guns being recovered from the streets of Boston and surrounding communities. Surveillance footage even caught him firing one of the firearms in Alabama, a stark reminder of the dangers of gun violence.
As a convicted felon, Pringle is prohibited from possessing firearms, making his actions all the more egregious. He was charged with conspiracy to illegally transport firearms, illegal transportation or receipt of firearms, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Pringle’s co-defendants, Brandon Moore, Jarmori Brown, and Kobe Smith, were also involved in the conspiracy. Brown was sentenced to 18 months in prison in July 2023, while Moore’s case was transferred to the Middle District of Alabama, where he has since pleaded guilty. Smith pleaded guilty in March 2024 and will be sentenced on June 12, 2024.
The case was part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program aimed at reducing gun violence and making communities safer. The program brings together law enforcement and community organizations to prevent violence and support those affected by it.
Acting United States Attorney Joshua S. Levy and James M. Ferguson, Special Agent in Charge of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Boston Field Division, announced the sentencing. The Major Crimes Unit prosecuted the case.
Pringle’s actions were a clear threat to public safety, and his sentencing is a welcome step towards keeping communities safe. As the Department continues to work towards reducing gun violence, cases like this serve as a reminder of the importance of holding those responsible accountable.
This case is a testament to the success of Project Safe Neighborhoods in bringing together law enforcement and community organizations to reduce gun violence and make our neighborhoods safer. We will continue to work tirelessly to support those affected by violence and to hold perpetrators accountable for their actions.
