Andrew L. Fitch, 32, of Angola, Indiana, has been sentenced to 121 months in prison for his role in the distribution of methamphetamine. The sentence, handed down by U.S. District Court Judge Holly A. Brady, follows Fitch’s guilty plea to possession with the intent to distribute methamphetamine.
The case against Fitch began on August 20, 2016, when an Angola Police Department officer attempted to pull him over for speeding on I-69. Instead of stopping, Fitch accelerated away from the officer, sparking a high-speed chase. Fitch, who was operating a motorcycle, reached speeds of over 100 miles per hour before losing control and being apprehended.
At the time of his arrest, Fitch had an active warrant out for his arrest. A search of his person revealed $1,655.29 in cash, and a subsequent search of the motorcycle turned up scales, a glass pipe, pills, and baggies containing 66 grams of methamphetamine.
The investigation into Fitch’s activities was led by the Drug Enforcement Administration, with assistance from the Angola Police Department and the Steuben County Sheriff’s Department. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Anthony W. Geller.
Fitch’s sentence of 121 months in prison will be followed by 5 years of supervised release. The sentence reflects the seriousness of the crime and the danger that Fitch posed to the community through his involvement in the distribution of methamphetamine.
The prosecution of Fitch is a significant victory in the fight against drug trafficking in Indiana. The case highlights the importance of cooperation between law enforcement agencies and the need for swift and severe punishment for those involved in the distribution of illicit substances.
U.S. Attorney Kirsch praised the work of the law enforcement agencies involved in the case, saying that their efforts had helped to bring a dangerous individual to justice. The sentence handed down to Fitch serves as a warning to others who would engage in similar activities, and demonstrates the commitment of law enforcement to protecting the community from the scourge of drug trafficking.
