GRIMY TIMES EXCLUSIVE: In a harsh blow to the drug trade, Adrian Leary, 33, of Eatonville, Florida, has been sentenced to 105 months in federal prison for Possession with Intent to Distribute Cocaine. The sentence, announced by U.S. Attorney Michael J. Moore for the Middle District of Georgia, is accompanied by four years of supervised release.
Leary’s reign of terror came to an end on June 3, 2013, when he was sentenced by Judge Hugh Lawson in Valdosta, Georgia. His guilt was established on February 22, 2013, when he confessed to driving at speeds over 100 mph on Interstate 75, attempting to flee law enforcement, and damaging two vehicles during the chase.
The DEA and Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office led the investigation that resulted in Leary’s capture. A subsequent search of his vehicle yielded a staggering 525.7 grams of cocaine. U.S. Attorney Moore emphasized that Leary’s actions endangered public safety, stating, “He won’t be a threat to public safety while he is in federal prison.”
Assistant United States Attorney Peter Leary, unrelated to the defendant, was the prosecution’s lead attorney. The Public Affairs Specialist for the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Sue McKinney, can provide further inquiries at (478) 621-2602.
This sentence is a stark reminder of the consequences faced by those who traffic in hard drugs and put lives at risk through reckless behavior on our highways.
