TYLER, Texas – The Department of Justice has dealt a severe blow to the drug trade in the Eastern District of Texas. Isaac Dion Smith, also known as ‘Ike’, 34, of Flint, was sentenced to 144 months in federal prison for his role in a drug conspiracy.
Smith had entered a guilty plea on October 14, 2014, admitting his involvement in the distribution of methamphetamine and heroin. According to court documents, Smith and his co-conspirators operated in the north Tyler area, dealing drugs and bartering firearms.
The group was supplied by sources primarily from the Dallas area. Smith’s sentencing comes after a long investigation involving the Smith County Sheriff’s Department, Tyler Police Department, the DEA, and the ATF. Assistant United States Attorney Bill Baldwin prosecuted the case.
Smith was one of 12 co-defendants indicted on April 23, 2014. His fellow conspirators have already been sentenced to various terms ranging from 24 to 72 months in prison.
In addition to his prison term, Smith is ordered to forfeit multiple firearms and pay a money judgment totaling $18,000.00 to the United States as part of his plea deal.
This case underscores the relentless efforts of federal law enforcement to crack down on drug trafficking across Texas.
