The gritty streets of Florence, South Carolina, saw justice served as Tyrone Goodrum, 45, was handed a 46-month prison sentence for his role in a cunning conspiracy that fleeced the Farm Service Agency (FSA) of over $146,000. His wife, Roselyn Goodrum, has also been ensnared in this sordid tale, having served 27 months in jail since February 2017.
According to United States Attorney Beth Drake, Tyrone Goodrum was convicted by a jury on November 8, 2016, for conspiracy under 18 U.S.C. § 371. United States District Judge R. Bryan Harwell of Florence oversaw the sentencing, which also required Tyrone to pay $146,000 in restitution to the federal government.
The Goodrum couple’s fraudulent scheme was exposed when they filed a fraudulent application for disaster benefits following Winter Storm Pax, which ravaged farms in the Pee Dee region in 2014. Roselyn Goodrum, who was the FSA Florence office manager from 2006 to 2014, directed this operation. Tyrone Goodrum, despite having no legitimate connection to the farm, claimed he was entitled to disaster benefits, channeling $18,500 to settle his child support debt.
Agents of the United States Department of Agriculture and the Federal Bureau of Investigation pieced together the intricate web of deceit that led to the couple’s downfall. Assistant United States Attorney Winston Holliday prosecuted the case from the Columbia Office, ensuring justice for the federal funds misappropriated.
