WASHINGTON – A Tampa real estate developer and his accountant associate pleaded guilty to federal election crimes, announced Assistant Attorney General Lanny A. Breuer.
The defendants, Timothy F. Mobley and Timothy F. Hohl, both 60, pleaded guilty in Jacksonville, Fla., federal court to making and aiding in illegal campaign contributions to the Republican Party of Florida and a U.S. Congressman.
Mobley admitted to disguising contributions by recruiting employees and using corporate funds to reimburse them, attempting to conceal the reimbursements by characterizing them as legitimate bonus compensation or advances on bonus compensation.
He admitted to reimbursing a total of $10,000 to RPOF and $84,300 in contributions to the campaign of Federal Elected Official A.
Hohl admitted to aiding and abetting Mobley’s scheme by participating in the reimbursement of other individuals, seeking and accepting reimbursement for his own contributions, and seeking and accepting reimbursement for his wife’s contributions.
The Justice Department’s Public Integrity Section is prosecuting the case, with the FBI’s Jacksonville and Tampa Field Offices conducting the investigation.
Mobley faces a maximum potential penalty of five years in prison and a $632,000 fine on two counts of making illegal conduit and corporate contributions in violation of the Federal Election Campaign Act.
Hohl pleaded guilty to three counts of aiding and abetting those illegal contributions, with a maximum potential penalty of one year in prison and a $100,000 fine for each count.
