Florida Man Charged in $7,435 Bank Heist
A Florida resident has been charged in connection with a brazen bank robbery that left two Pittsburgh area banks shaken.
According to federal authorities, 42-year-old Robert Stiver, a Florida resident, used a firearm to rob the Allegheny Valley Bank in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, of $2,063 on November 2, 2016. Stiver also allegedly used a firearm to rob the First Commonwealth in Harmarville, Pennsylvania, of $5,372.
The indictment, handed down by a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh, charges Stiver with four counts of armed robbery. If convicted, Stiver faces a maximum sentence of not more than 25 years in prison, a fine of not more than $250,000, or both for each armed robbery count.
Assistant United States Attorney Timothy M. Lanni is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government. The Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Shaler Township Police Department, and the Harmar Township Police Department conducted the investigation leading to the indictment.
An indictment is an accusation, and Stiver is presumed innocent until proven guilty. The case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of bank robbery and the importance of law enforcement’s efforts to bring perpetrators to justice.
