A 41-year-old man from Suwannee County, Florida, has been indicted on a federal charge of failing to register as a sex offender after traveling from South Carolina.
Denny Junior Jenkins faces up to 10 years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine for allegedly failing to register as a sex offender as required by the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act.
According to the indictment, Jenkins was convicted of committing two sex offenses in Florida in 1992 and subsequently traveled from South Carolina to Florida in 2012 without registering as a sex offender.
The indictment alleges that between March 2012 and September 2012, Jenkins failed to register as a sex offender as required by the law.
The case was investigated by the United States Marshals Service and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney D. Rodney Brown.
Jenkins is scheduled to appear in court on February 22, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. for an arraignment and detention hearing before United States Magistrate Judge Monte C. Richardson.
The case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.
