Pittsburgh, PA – In a shocking display of financial corruption, Gregory M. Makozy, Sr., a 55-year-old resident of Port St. Lucie, Florida, has been sentenced to 30 months in prison for his role in concealing assets from the bankruptcy court.
As revealed in federal court, Makozy deliberately hid assets from the bankruptcy court in a Chapter 7 Petition filed in 2013 by transferring ownership of valuable assets to others. These assets included a 2005 Aston Martin automobile and real estate located in Butler County, Pennsylvania.
The brazen scheme was uncovered by the combined efforts of the Office of the United States Trustee, the United States Postal Inspection Service, and the Internal Revenue Service-Criminal Investigation.
Assistant United States Attorney Gregory C. Melucci led the prosecution, ensuring that Makozy faced justice for his actions.
United States Attorney David J. Hickton commended the agencies involved in the successful prosecution, saying that their collaboration was instrumental in bringing Makozy to justice.
The sentence imposed by United States District Judge Arthur J. Schwab includes 30 months of imprisonment followed by three years of supervised release. Makozy will also be required to pay restitution in the amount of $48,260.00.
Makozy’s sentence serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of financial dishonesty. As the investigation and prosecution of this case demonstrate, concealing assets from the bankruptcy court will not be tolerated.
