Florida Man Hid Assets from Bankruptcy Court
A case of shocking deception has shaken the judicial system in Pennsylvania. Gregory M. Makozy, Sr., a 54-year-old resident of Port St. Lucie, Florida, has been found guilty of concealing assets from the bankruptcy court in a Chapter 7 Petition filed in 2013.
According to court documents, Makozy hid assets worth millions by transferring them to others, including a luxurious 2005 Aston Martin automobile and real estate located in Butler County, Pennsylvania. The cunning move allowed him to deceive the court and gain an unfair advantage in the bankruptcy proceedings.
The scheme was uncovered by a joint investigation conducted by the Office of the United States Trustee, the United States Postal Inspection Service, and the Internal Revenue Service-Criminal Investigation. The probe exposed Makozy’s deceitful actions and paved the way for his guilty plea.
Assistant United States Attorney Gregory C. Melucci is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government. The case highlights the importance of transparency and accountability in the judicial system.
The sentencing for Makozy is scheduled for May 11, 2016. The law provides for a total sentence of 5 years in prison, a fine of $250,000.00, or both. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed will depend on the seriousness of the offenses and Makozy’s criminal history.
