Bobby D. Morrill, Jr. is the latest in a string of local dealers to be brought to justice by federal authorities. The 38-year-old Carmi man pleaded guilty to four counts of distributing methamphetamine in White County, Illinois.
According to court records, Morrill was charged with distributing the highly addictive and deadly substance on four separate occasions in 2015. The dates of the offenses were August 31st, September 8th, 9th, and 16th. Morrill could face up to 80 years in prison for his crimes, as well as a $1 million fine and 3 years to life on supervised release following his incarceration.
Morrill has been held without bond in the custody of the United States Marshal since his appearance on the federal charges in January. He was returned to the custody of the Marshal to await sentencing, which is set for June 22, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. at the United States Courthouse in Benton.
The case was investigated by the Carmi office of the Southern Illinois Drug Task Force, a collaborative effort between local and federal law enforcement agencies. Assistant United States Attorney James M. Cutchin is handling the prosecution of Morrill’s case.
While Morrill’s guilty plea marks a significant victory for law enforcement, it also serves as a reminder of the devastating impact that methamphetamine has on communities. The highly addictive substance has been linked to a range of problems, including overdose deaths, property damage, and family destruction.
