Florida ‘Proud Boy’ Busted for Capitol Breach Assaults

FLORIDA — A member of the Proud Boys organization from Florida was busted today for his alleged role in the Jan. 6, 2021, U.S. Capitol breach and assaulting law enforcement.

Troy Vincent Garrett, 48, of Stuart, Florida, is facing felony charges of assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers and civil disorder. The 48-year-old also faces several misdemeanor offenses, including entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds, disorderly and disruptive conduct, act of physical violence, and disorderly conduct in a Capitol building.

The FBI arrested Garrett in Stuart, Florida, and he made his initial appearance in the Southern District of Florida. Court documents claim Garrett was seen preparing for the breach near Washington Monument with other Proud Boys members. He was later spotted at the west side of the Capitol building, where he is accused of shoving a Capitol police officer’s riot shield and aiding rioters in breaching police lines.

Video footage shows Garrett actively supporting others as they pushed a ‘TRUMP 2020’ billboard against the police line. He remained inside the restricted area until after 4:00 p.m., moving to the north side of the Capitol later on.

The investigation is being led by the FBI’s Miami and Washington Field Offices, with valuable assistance from the U.S. Capitol Police and the Metropolitan Police Department.

This case is being prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia and the Department of Justice National Security Division’s Counterterrorism Section.
