Floyd Wood, Sex Offender Registration and Supervised Release Violations, New York 2025

Floyd Wood, 57, a DeRuyter, New York resident, has plead guilty to serious sex offender registration and supervised release violations. Wood, a federally convicted sex offender, admitted to creating and maintaining an email account without reporting it to the Sex Offender Registry, as required by law. He also admitted to violating the conditions of his supervised release by not reporting the email account, and falsifying reports about it, to the United States Probation Office.

The investigation revealed that Wood possessed an unreported and unmonitored internet-capable phone, on which the email was discovered. Wood’s actions are a stark reminder that sex offenders who surreptitiously use the internet in violation of law, and in violation of court-imposed conditions of supervision designed to mitigate their threat to society, will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Wood faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, and a term of supervised release of at least 5 years and up to life. He also faces up to an additional 5 years for violating the terms of his supervised release.

The United States Marshals Service is investigating the case with assistance from the United States Probation Office. Assistant United States Attorney Lisa M. Fletcher, Project Safe Childhood Coordinator for the Northern District of New York is prosecuting the case.

Project Safe Childhood is a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Led by the U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS), Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.

The case against Wood is a prime example of the efforts of law enforcement agencies to protect society from sex offenders who continue to pose a threat despite being released from prison. The community can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that Wood will face justice for his actions.
