EAGLE BUTTE MAN SENTENCED FOR ASSAULTING A FEDERAL OFFICER
Cleveland Buckman, a 37-year-old Eagle Butte man, has been sentenced to 12 months in custody for forcibly assaulting a federal officer on the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation. The incident took place on June 3, 2014, when Buckman allegedly attacked a Cheyenne River Sioux Tribal Officer who was performing his official duties.
U.S. Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced the sentencing, which was handed down by U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno on September 15, 2014. In addition to the 12-month prison sentence, Buckman was also ordered to serve 1 year of supervised release and pay $25 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
The investigation into the incident was conducted by the Cheyenne River Sioux Law Enforcement Division, and the case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Mikal Hanson. Buckman was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service to begin serving his sentence.
