Harr W Bennett, Liquor Consumption on Job, Michigan 1930

In a bold move to keep its workforce sober, the Ford Motor Company has banned employees from drinking on the job. As of April 25, 1930, any employee found imbibing or with the telltale whiff of liquor on their breath will be shown the door by Harr W. Bennett, chief of the company’s private police force. Bennett revealed that this new policy was put in place in cooperation with Chief of Police Carl Brooks of Dearborn, a suburb just outside the Ford plant’s gates.
