Fort Pierre Man Charged with Failure to Pay Child Support
Fort Pierre, SD – Jason L. Hackett, 36, of Fort Pierre, has been indicted by a federal grand jury for Failure to Pay Legal Child Support, announced United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson.
According to the indictment, Hackett was charged on July 10, 2012, and appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Moreno on April 18, 2013, pleading not guilty to the charges. If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of 2 years’ imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, 1 year of supervised release, a $100 special assessment, and possible restitution.
The investigation into Hackett’s case is being conducted by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Troy Morley prosecuting the case. Hackett was released on bond pending trial, and a trial date has not been set.
The charge against Hackett is merely an accusation, and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty. The U.S. Attorney’s Office emphasizes that a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in a court of law.
The case highlights the importance of paying child support obligations. Hackett’s failure to do so has led to this federal indictment, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office is committed to holding individuals accountable for their actions.
Hackett’s case is a reminder that failure to pay child support can have serious consequences. The U.S. Attorney’s Office urges all individuals with child support obligations to take their responsibilities seriously and make timely payments to avoid similar situations.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office is dedicated to ensuring that all individuals, including those who fail to pay child support, are held accountable for their actions. This case is a prime example of the office’s commitment to upholding the law and protecting the rights of all individuals involved.
The investigation into Hackett’s case is ongoing, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office will continue to work closely with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to ensure that all avenues of investigation are pursued.
