Francis Block, Crystal Methamphetamine Trafficking and Witness Tampering, Michigan 2014

GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN – In a shocking turn of events, 45-year-old Francis Block, a Kalamazoo resident, has been sentenced to life in prison for his involvement in a massive crystal methamphetamine trafficking operation and witness tampering charges. The federal crystal methamphetamine and witness tampering conspiracy case has sent shockwaves throughout the community.

According to authorities, the Kalamazoo Valley Enforcement Team (KVET) and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) initiated an investigation into Block’s activities in 2012. The investigation, dubbed ‘Operation Roadblock,’ led to the seizure of methamphetamine lab components, $29,800 in U.S. currency, and multiple firearms from Block’s residence in Cooper Township, Michigan, in January 2013.

Further investigation revealed that Block had connections with crystal methamphetamine suppliers from Mexican drug cartels. In October 2013, investigators executed a series of multi-ounce controlled purchases of crystal methamphetamine directly from Block, leading to his arrest during a attempted sale of four ounces of crystal methamphetamine.

The raids and seizures that followed were unprecedented, with officers locating and seizing over a pound of crystal methamphetamine, handwritten drug ledgers, and nearly $20,000 in U.S. currency from various locations around Kalamazoo. Block’s co-defendants, including his sister Elizabeth McNett, have all pleaded guilty to one or more federal charges. In a related case, U.S. District Judge Janet Neff sentenced Ben Alan Phelps to 36 months in custody.
