A Houston man has been sentenced to 5 years in prison for his role in a methamphetamine trafficking operation in the Lake Charles area.
According to court documents, Raymond Earl Neal, 26, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Donald E. Walter on one count of distribution of controlled substances and one count of possession with intent to distribute controlled substances.
Neal was also sentenced to 3 years of supervised release after serving his prison term.
The charges against Neal stem from a March 24, 2016, guilty plea, in which he admitted to selling approximately 2 ounces of methamphetamine to an undercover informant for $1,900.
Later that same day, Neal was stopped by police officers for a traffic violation, during which they found an additional 8.5 ounces of methamphetamine and a Smith & Wesson .9 mm semi-automatic handgun in his vehicle.
The investigation was conducted by Homeland Security Investigations, the Calcasieu Combined Anti-Drug Task Force, and the Lake Charles Police Department.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Dominic Rossetti prosecuted the case.
Neal’s prison sentence is a significant blow to the methamphetamine trafficking operation in the Lake Charles area, and serves as a warning to those who would engage in similar activities.
