A Luzerne County man has been charged with conspiracy and cocaine distribution after a lengthy investigation.
Frank Suriano, 44, of Pittston, Pennsylvania, has been accused of conspiring to distribute more than 500 grams of cocaine hydrochloride and distributing cocaine on numerous occasions.
According to United States Attorney Peter J. Smith, the indictment marks a continuation of an investigation into a Pittston area drug ring by special agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Pennsylvania State Police, and the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office.
Prosecution has been assigned to Assistant United States Attorney John Gurganus.
Suriano’s indictment comes with serious consequences. If found guilty, he faces a maximum penalty of 60 years’ imprisonment, a term of supervised release following imprisonment, and a fine.
The actual sentence will be determined by a judge, taking into account various factors, including the nature and seriousness of the offense, the defendant’s history and characteristics, and the need to punish the defendant, protect the public, and provide for the defendant’s educational, vocational, and medical needs.
Although the indictment is only an allegation, Suriano is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
The investigation into the Pittston area drug ring is ongoing, and it is unclear what other charges may be forthcoming.
