In a shocking turn of events, a Montgomery man has been sentenced to 90 months in federal prison for his role in a gun and drug trafficking operation.
Franklin Douglas Hambrick, 35, was arrested on January 6, 2022, after a traffic stop turned into a high-speed chase through the streets of Montgomery.
According to investigators, Hambrick fled the scene on foot but was apprehended after a short pursuit. Upon searching his backpack, authorities discovered a handgun, fentanyl, and marijuana.
The shocking discovery marked a turning point in the investigation, as it was revealed that Hambrick had a previous felony conviction, thereby making him ineligible to possess a firearm or ammunition under federal law.
On April 2, 2024, Hambrick pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including possession with intent to distribute fentanyl and marijuana, possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
The Montgomery Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives investigated the case, with Assistant United States Attorney Justin L. Jones prosecuting the charges.
In a somber statement, officials emphasized the gravity of Hambrick’s crimes and the potential consequences for those involved in gun and drug trafficking operations.
