Officer’s Cruel Act Exposed

A former Fulton Police Sergeant, Joseph Arigo, 47, has been found guilty of brutally assaulting a handcuffed man at the Fulton police station in 2014. The shocking incident occurred on June 28, 2014, when a man, identified as G.B., was brought into custody and was being held in a room.

According to court documents, G.B. was yelling but not physically threatening any officers or himself. However, Sergeant Arigo pulled the video camera out of the wall to stop it from recording and then punched G.B. in the head multiple times, causing him to lose consciousness and suffer cuts and bruising. The victim required seven stitches to treat his injuries.

Arigo attempted to conceal his actions by lying to his supervisors and falsifying two official reports. His guilty plea has sparked outrage in the community and raised questions about the Fulton Police Department’s handling of the situation.

The assault was investigated by the Syracuse Resident Agency of the FBI’s Albany Division, and the case is being prosecuted by Trial Attorney Dana Mulhauser of the Civil Rights Division. Arigo faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and will be sentenced on January 23, 2015.

The incident highlights the need for accountability within law enforcement agencies and the importance of holding officers responsible for their actions. The public expects police officers to uphold the law and protect the community, not to perpetrate violence and abuse.

As the community grapples with the implications of this case, one thing is clear: Sergeant Arigo’s actions were inexcusable and unacceptable. His guilty plea is a step towards justice, but it is only the beginning. The Fulton Police Department must take responsibility for its role in covering up the incident and work towards rebuilding trust with the community.

A full investigation into the Fulton Police Department’s handling of the situation is warranted, and the public deserves to know the truth about what happened. The people of Fulton deserve better than a police force that protects and serves, but also covers up crimes and abuses power.
