MACON, GA – Javon Glen Britton, 34, of Sacramento, California, won’t be scoring any deals at GameStop anytime soon. The career criminal admitted guilt to robbing the store on Presidential Parkway at gunpoint, the Department of Justice announced today. Britton faces a substantial stretch in federal prison for his brazen act.

On August 21, 2014, Britton walked into the GameStop at 4659 Presidential Parkway, Macon, Georgia, armed and dangerous. He brandished a U.S. Military Surplus M1 carbine, ordering customers and employees to hit the floor. The demand was simple: cell phones and cash. Britton relieved the store clerk of approximately $492.00 before making a hasty exit.

The getaway didn’t go smoothly. Following an altercation with a concerned citizen, Britton crashed his vehicle and attempted to evade capture by seeking refuge in a nearby store. Bibb County Sheriff’s Deputies weren’t fooled, quickly apprehending Britton and his passenger. While the charges against the passenger were eventually dropped, Britton confessed to the GameStop robbery after being read his rights.

United States Attorney Michael J. Moore didn’t mince words about the case. “When you use a firearm to commit a robbery, my office will use the law to make sure that you spend a very long time in federal prison,” Moore stated. “The old saying that “gun crimes equal hard time” should be on the mind of anyone who even thinks about committing a crime with a firearm.”

Britton now faces a maximum sentence of 20 years imprisonment for the Hobbs Act Robbery charge. Adding insult to injury, the brandishing of a firearm during a crime of violence carries a minimum mandatory consecutive sentence of 7 years to life. The sentencing hearing is scheduled for February 12, 2015, at 9:00 a.m. in Macon, Georgia.

The investigation was a joint effort led by the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives (ATF), and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Assistant United States Attorney Michael Solis will be prosecuting the case, ensuring Britton answers for his reckless and violent actions. This case serves as a stark reminder that armed robbery will not be tolerated in the Middle District of Georgia.
