Garrith Bitsilly, a 33-year-old from Newcomb, New Mexico, Pleads Guilty to Abusive Sexual Contact in Indian Country
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – In a disturbing case of child abuse, Garrith Bitsilly, an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, pleaded guilty to a charge of abusive sexual contact in Indian Country in federal court in Albuquerque on June 1.
Bitsilly, 33, of Newcomb, New Mexico, committed the offense between February 1, 2014, and August 31, 2014, within the territory of the Navajo Nation in San Juan County. According to his plea agreement, he forced a child under the age of 12 to have sexual contact with him at a family member’s residence.
Bitsilly is currently in custody pending sentencing. He faces 63 months in prison under the terms of his plea agreement. The severity of the sentence underscores the gravity of the crime and the need for justice in cases of child abuse.
The Farmington office of the FBI investigated this case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Elisa C. Dimas is prosecuting the case. The guilty plea marks a significant step towards holding Bitsilly accountable for his actions and providing justice to the victim and their family.
