Boston, MA – In a move that will send shockwaves through the city’s financial underworld, a federal judge has slammed 64-year-old Gary Cederquist with a 10-year sentence for masterminding a massive money laundering operation.
According to court documents, Cederquist, a longtime resident of Boston, orchestrated a scheme that funneled millions of dollars through a complex web of offshore accounts and shell companies. The scheme, which was uncovered by federal authorities in 2023, involved the use of cryptocurrency and other digital payment systems to launder the funds.
The case, United States v. Gary Cederquist, was heard in the District Court of Massachusetts. Cederquist was represented by a team of high-powered attorneys, including Vincent J. DeMore, III, Kevin J. Reddington, Christine J. Wichers, and Adam W. Deitch.
Prosecutors, led by the US Attorney’s Office for the District of Massachusetts, presented a mountain of evidence against Cederquist, including financial records, witness testimony, and digital evidence recovered from his computer and phone.
Cederquist’s defense team argued that their client was a victim of circumstance and that the government had failed to prove its case beyond a reasonable doubt. However, the judge ultimately sided with the prosecution, finding Cederquist guilty on all counts.
In addition to the 10-year sentence, Cederquist was also ordered to pay a fine of $250,000 and to forfeit any assets related to the money laundering scheme.
