PITTSBURGH – George Allen, a 33-year-old resident of Pittsburgh’s Glen Mawr Street, has been handed down a sentence of twelve months and a day in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release, for obstruction of law enforcement during civil disorder. United States Attorney Cindy K. Chung made the announcement today.
Allen was sentenced by United States District Judge Arthur J. Schwab, who also granted him permission to remain on bond until February 1, 2022, when he is required to self-report to commence his sentence.
The court had been informed that on May 30, 2020, Allen willfully and knowingly hurled multiple pieces of concrete at a police vehicle. One piece shattered the front passenger window, striking an officer who suffered minor bruising to his arm. These actions directly obstructed law enforcement from carrying out their duties during the protest.
Assistant United States Attorney Jonathan D. Lusty handled the prosecution on behalf of the government, while the investigation was carried out by the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
George Allen’s conviction and sentence serve as a stark reminder of the consequences faced by those who interfere with police officers during their official duties.
