Child Pornography Ring Cracked: Plymouth Man Pleads Guilty

A disturbing case of child exploitation has come to light in Massachusetts, as 26-year-old George H. Lunt of Plymouth pleaded guilty to two counts of transportation of child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography.

Lunt’s guilty plea was made before U.S. District Court Judge George A. O’Toole Jr. in Boston, where he admitted to possessing thousands of images and videos of child pornography, including depictions of prepubescent children and toddlers, and sadistic conduct. He also admitted to distributing child pornography through online peer-to-peer file-sharing software.

The case against Lunt was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. The project marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.

Lunt is scheduled to be sentenced on June 21, 2011, and faces a mandatory minimum penalty of five years in prison, a fine of $250,000 and restitution if appropriate. The case was investigated by the FBI and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael I. Yoon of the District of Massachusetts and CEOS Trial Attorney Bonnie L. Kane of the Criminal Division.

The guilty plea marks a significant victory for law enforcement in the fight against child exploitation. As the nation continues to grapple with the scourge of child pornography, it is crucial that we hold perpetrators accountable for their crimes and work to prevent future instances of abuse.
