A Pineville man has been convicted of possessing child pornography, federal authorities announced Monday.
George Jeffus, 73, of Pineville, La., pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Dee D. Drell to one count of possession of child pornography.
According to the guilty plea, Pineville police received a report concerning Jeffus possessing possible child pornography. His home was searched, and 136 images and five video files of child pornography were found on electronic storage devices.
Jeffus faces up to 20 years in prison, five years to life of supervised release, forfeiture of items that were seized during the investigation and a $250,000 fine.
Additionally, he is required to register as a sex offender. A sentencing date of March 16, 2017 was set.
The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations, the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Pineville Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jamilla A. Bynog is prosecuting the case.
This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
