George S. Schrand, Jr., 36, has been found guilty of possessing methamphetamine with the intent to distribute in Kansas City, Missouri.

The conviction comes after a high-speed chase on March 13, 2017, in which Schrand drove recklessly through residential areas and city thoroughfares, reaching speeds of 80 to 90 miles per hour. He was eventually stopped and arrested by police, who found a black backpack near the scene containing 179 grams of pure methamphetamine, as well as marijuana, controlled substances, and drug paraphernalia.

Upon his arrest, Schrand was found to be in possession of a clear plastic baggie containing methamphetamine and $20,950. The evidence presented during the trial indicated that Schrand was involved in a large-scale methamphetamine trafficking operation.

The jury in the U.S. District Court in Kansas City, Missouri, deliberated for less than an hour before returning a guilty verdict to U.S. District Judge Brian C. Wimes. Under federal statutes, Schrand is subject to a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in federal prison without parole, up to a sentence of life in federal prison without parole.
