CHARLESTON, W.Va. – A local man has been taken down by authorities for his role in a methamphetamine ring, with a guilty plea entered in federal court.

Shawn Lamont Lane, 33, of Charleston, pleaded guilty to distribution of methamphetamine and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime on an unspecified date in March 2021. According to court documents and statements made in court, Lane was found in possession of a large quantity of methamphetamine and a Springfield Armory XD-M Elite 9mm pistol at the time of his arrest.

Lane also admitted to selling methamphetamine to a confidential informant in Charleston in July 2021.

As a result of the guilty plea, Lane is facing up to 20 years in prison for the drug offense and a consecutive sentence of at least five years and up to life in prison for the firearm offense. He is scheduled to be sentenced on July 21, 2022.

The announcement of Lane’s guilty plea was made by U.S. Attorney Will Thompson, who commended the investigative work of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Charleston Police Department.

A United States District Judge Irene C. Berger presided over the hearing, while Assistant United States Attorney Alex Hamner is prosecuting the case.
