ATLANTA – In a stunning revelation of fiscal treachery, Timothy S. Lenon has pleaded guilty to embezzling over $300,000 in Social Security benefits meant for his deceased father. The 57-year-old from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is accused of siphoning off the funds for over two decades.
“Lenon pocketed his father’s Social Security payments for over 20 years, living beyond his means on the earnings,” said U. S. Attorney John Horn. “This theft robbed legitimate beneficiaries of much-needed resources.”
The inspectorate’s vigilance was praised by Special Agent-in-Charge Margaret Moore-Jackson, who emphasized the commitment to protecting Social Security programs for all reliant citizens.
Details provided in court revealed that Lenon’s father died on January 16, 1994. His son failed to notify authorities of his death and kept his father’s bank account open. In a fraudulent move two years after his father’s demise, Lenon altered the address on the account, ensuring continued benefits deposit until April 2014.
Bank records exposed Lenon’s lavish spending: multiple credit cards, monthly Amazon purchases, utility bills, and phone bills – all funded by the stolen funds. The total loss to Social Security was over $309,000. He also admitted to misusing his father’s New York City pension, totaling over $157,000, which he also spent.
Scheduled for July 19, 2017, Lenon will face sentencing before U.S. District Judge Charles A. Pannell Jr., marking the end of this sordid financial saga.
