James Grimes, 29, of Columbus, Georgia, has pleaded guilty to one count of possession of child pornography before Judge Clay D. Land in Columbus. Grimes was caught during a Homeland Security Investigations sweep that uncovered over 600 pornographic images at his home.
The investigation began after Grimes reportedly admitted owning multiple computers with illegal content and accessing wireless modems in the neighborhood to download child pornography, which he then shared with others. He now faces up to 20 years imprisonment, a fine of $250,000, or both.
In a separate case, Kenneth Nichelson, 56, from Cataula, Georgia, pleaded guilty to receipt of child pornography. Nichelson bought nine DVDs depicting child pornography and had over 10 images on his computer at the time of his arrest. His previous conviction for sexual abuse in 1994 carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years up to 40 years.
Both men are set to be sentenced in approximately 60 days. U.S. Attorney Michael Moore emphasized the tragedy of child pornography cases, stating that children are re-victimized each time their images are viewed by such criminals.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Crawford Seals. For more information, contact Public Information Officer Pamela Lightsey at (478) 621-2603.
