Georgia Man Sentenced for ID Fraud Conspiracy

Jared Harris, a 26-year-old man from Riverdale, Georgia, has been sentenced to 21 months in prison for his role in a conspiracy to possess fraudulent identification documents. According to court documents, Harris, along with co-conspirator Terrell Washington, drove through several states in possession of stolen U.S. Treasury checks, fake identification, and proceeds from their check cashing scheme.

The pair was caught at a Kenner Wal-Mart after a cashier identified Harris and Washington as the individuals who had first attempted to use fake IDs to cash a stolen U.S. Treasury check. Washington’s trial is scheduled for June 13, 2016.

U.S. District Judge Mary Ann Vial Lemmon handed down the sentence, which will be followed by three years of supervised release. Harris was also ordered to pay $13,170 in restitution to Wal-Mart Corporation.

U.S. Attorney Kenneth A. Polite praised the work of the U.S. Secret Service in investigating this matter. Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael M. Simpson was in charge of the prosecution.

The investigation and prosecution of Harris and Washington serves as a reminder of the serious consequences of engaging in ID fraud and other financial crimes. The public is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.

In related news, the U.S. Secret Service continues to work tirelessly to combat financial crimes and protect the nation’s financial infrastructure. The agency’s efforts have led to numerous convictions and the recovery of millions of dollars in stolen funds.

The case against Harris and Washington is a testament to the importance of collaboration between law enforcement agencies and the need for continued vigilance in the fight against financial crimes.
