Christopher David Johnson, Methamphetamine Conspiracy, Virginia 2023

A notorious methamphetamine kingpin, still behind bars in Georgia, just got his comeuppance in U.S. District Court in Virginia. Christopher David Johnson, 46, pleaded guilty last week to one count of conspiring to possess with the intent to distribute and to distributing 500 grams or more of methamphetamine.

Johnson, a seasoned operator, orchestrated a wide-ranging methamphetamine conspiracy, recruiting multiple accomplices including Michael Paul Brown, who just got sentenced to 180 months of imprisonment for his role in the scheme. At the time of his arrest, Johnson was already serving time in Georgia, but that didn’t stop him from running his illicit operation from behind bars.

According to court documents, Johnson used multiple cell phones to direct the methamphetamine distribution operation, communicating with his co-conspirators via Facebook and text messaging to coordinate methamphetamine pricing, quantities, recruitment, sales, and deliveries.

The investigation, led by the Drug Enforcement Administration, involved multiple law enforcement agencies in Georgia, Tennessee, and Virginia, including the Bristol (Tennessee) Police Department, the Bristol (Virginia) Police Department, the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office, the 2nd Judicial Drug Task Force, and the Georgia State Patrol.

Johnson’s guilty plea sets the stage for a lengthy prison sentence, with a mandatory minimum of 15 years and a statutory maximum of life. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Corey Hall and Whit Pierce are prosecuting the case.

The conviction marks a significant victory for law enforcement in the ongoing fight against methamphetamine trafficking in the region. As the authorities continue to crack down on these operations, it’s clear that no one is above the law, not even those behind bars.

United States Attorney Christopher R. Kavanaugh and Jared Forget, Special Agent in Charge of Drug Enforcement Administration’s Washington Division, made the announcement, highlighting the collaborative effort that led to Johnson’s conviction.
