Moore for the Middle District of Georgia has announced his office’s full support for the Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) National Take-Back Initiative. Scheduled for Saturday, April 27, 2013, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., this initiative is poised to collect millions of pounds of unwanted and unused prescription drugs at various locations throughout Georgia.
Moore’s commitment underscores the gravity of the issue facing an entire generation. ‘Prescription medicine abuse is a serious issue,’ Moore stated, emphasizing the importance of cleaning out medicine cabinets and securing medications to prevent theft and misuse. Since 2009, DEA-led Take-Back events have resulted in the collection of over two million pounds of prescription medication, illustrating the public’s increasing awareness and desire for responsible disposal.
Participants are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to safely dispose of their unused drugs. The initiative not only serves as a means of disposal but also aims to educate the public on the risks associated with prescription drug abuse. ‘We must join forces to combat this crisis,’ Moore added, calling on citizens to report drug dealers and unscrupulous medical personnel who provide prescription medicines illicitly.
Events will be held across Georgia in cities such as Eatonton, Macon, Forsyth, Leesburg, Athens, Ft. Benning, and Blakely.
