Shiprock Man Sentenced to 10 Years for Child Sexual Abuse

Gerald A. Tso, 25, a resident of Shiprock, New Mexico, has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for his conviction on aggravated sexual assault charges.

On February 26, 2014, Tso was arrested on a criminal complaint charging him with aggravated sexual abuse of a child. He was subsequently indicted on March 26, 2014, on the same charge.

According to court filings, Tso sexually assaulted a 7-year-old Navajo child on February 26, 2014, in Shiprock, which is located within the Navajo Indian Reservation.

Tso pleaded guilty to a felony information charging him with aggravated sexual abuse on July 24, 2014. In entering his guilty plea, Tso admitted to engaging in a sexual act with a child, and further admitted that the child was under the age of 12 years at the time he victimized the child.

The case was investigated by the Farmington office of the FBI and the Shiprock office of the Navajo Nation Division of Public Safety. Assistant U.S. Attorney Novaline D. Wilson prosecuted the case.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Tso will be required to register as a sex offender after he completes his prison sentence.

Tso’s conviction is a result of the collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies and prosecutors to bring justice to victims of child sexual abuse. The community can take comfort in knowing that perpetrators of such heinous crimes will be held accountable for their actions.
