In a brazen daylight robbery, Gerard Gaffney, 19, of Mount Rainier, Maryland, and David Marable, 18, of Washington, D.C., allegedly stormed a Rite Aid pharmacy in Lower Paxton Township, Pennsylvania, and made off with cash and controlled substances.
According to federal authorities, the duo, along with their coconspirators, committed the armed robbery on March 28, 2019. The indictment alleges that the coconspirators demanded cash and controlled substances from the pharmacy employees. Gaffney and Marable, allegedly armed with a Glock pistol, took part in the heist.
The investigation was led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, in conjunction with the Lower Paxton Police Department and the Swatara Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael A. Consiglio will be prosecuting the case.
The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and making neighborhoods safer. The program brings together local law enforcement and the community to develop effective strategies to reduce violent crime.
As part of the indictment, Gaffney and Marable face serious charges, including robbery and firearms charges. The maximum penalty under federal law for this offense is life imprisonment, a term of supervised release following imprisonment, and a fine.
