NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Two Hampton Roads men, O’Sirus Landres Charles Ford, 21, and Jayden Stukes, 21, were sentenced to four years in prison for the armed robbery of a U.S. Postal Service (USPS) mail carrier.
Court documents reveal that on May 9, 2023, Ford, from Chesapeake, Virginia, robbed a Hampton mail carrier at gunpoint, demanding his ‘arrow’ key, which is used to access blue collection boxes and apartment mailbox panels. He recruited Stukes, also from Suffolk, Virginia, for assistance.
Ford had previously requested that Stukes drive him ‘across the water’ to Newport News/Hampton area. Stukes arranged for Da’Twan Watson, 24, of Chesapeake, to join them, believing Watson was ‘a lock.’
The trio met at a rental car Ford used in an earlier robbery and were eventually joined by another friend who drove them. All were armed with handguns and wore masks.
Ford and Watson confronted the mail carrier on Galax Street in Hampton, with Ford demanding the arrow key. After obtaining the key, they fled to meet Stukes and the driver at an apartment complex before crossing back over the water.
Watson and Stukes pleaded guilty to interfering with commerce by robbery and aiding and abetting. Ford pleaded guilty to conspiring to interfere with commerce by robbery and using a firearm during a crime of violence, his sentencing scheduled for May 2, 2023. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Julie Podlesni and Mack Coleman.
