Gilberto Martinez, Drug Trafficking, Arizona 2015

Grimy Times reports a disturbing trend of violence in the streets of Phoenix, as a local drug trafficker, Gilberto Martinez, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for his crimes.

Martinez, 35, of Phoenix, was found guilty by a federal jury on January 15, 2015, of five felony charges, including possession with intent to distribute cocaine, marijuana, and methamphetamine, and possession of firearms in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.

The evidence presented in court shows that March 31, 2014, was a violent night in Phoenix as Martinez’s residence, a notorious drug stash house, was the target of a home invasion by armed suspects. During the chaos, a gunshot rang out as Martinez struggled with one of the home invaders for control of a firearm.

Martinez was eventually taken into custody after a high-speed chase, during which police seized 10 firearms, 2 sets of ballistic armor, 6.7 kilograms of cocaine, 90 kilograms of marijuana, 180 grams of methamphetamine, and over $420,000.00 in cash.

Martinez’s extensive criminal record includes 8 prior convictions, including two prior convictions for drug dealing in the Phoenix area.

The investigation in this case was a joint effort between the Phoenix Police Department, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, and the Drug Enforcement Administration. The prosecution was handled by Michael Lee and Todd Allison, Assistant U.S. Attorneys, District of Arizona, Phoenix.

Gilberto Martinez’s 25-year sentence is a stark reminder of the dangers of drug trafficking and the consequences of such crimes. With a conviction record this extensive, it’s clear that Martinez has shown no regard for the law or the safety of his community.
