Fentanyl Trafficker Sentenced to 7 Years in Prison
Angel Valencia-Avendano, a 20-year-old from Los Mochis, Sinaloa, was handed a 84-month prison sentence by United States Chief District Judge G. Murray Snow.
Valencia-Avendano pleaded guilty to Possession with Intent to Distribute Fentanyl after a massive fentanyl trafficking bust in Phoenix.
On March 6, 2023, investigators were conducting surveillance near 78th Avenue and west McDowell Road when Valencia-Avendano was pulled over for a traffic violation. A search of his vehicle uncovered 27 kilograms of pills containing fentanyl – roughly 280,000 pills.
Further investigation led to a search of Valencia-Avendano’s apartment, where another 3 kilograms of fentanyl, a handgun, drug ledgers, and $83,500 in cash were found. The handgun and cash were seized by the United States.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Ryan McCarthy handled the prosecution, with the United States Drug Enforcement Administration conducting the investigation.
Valencia-Avendano’s sentencing has brought a measure of justice to the community, but the war on fentanyl continues to rage on. Grimy Times will continue to follow this story and provide updates as more information becomes available.
