A Zuni man pleaded guilty to the shooting death of an individual in the heat of passion. According to court documents, on December 1, 2024, Glendon Laate, 49, a member of the Zuni Pueblo, shot and killed an individual with a homemade shotgun in the heat of passion.
Laate pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter. At sentencing, Laate faces up to 15 years in prison.
First Assistant U.S. Attorney Ryan Ellison and Justin A. Garris, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Albuquerque Field Office, made the announcement today.
The Gallup Resident Agency of the FBI’s Albuquerque Field Office investigated this case with assistance from the Zuni Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Meg Tomlinson and Michael Pahl are prosecuting the case.
Laate, a 49-year-old member of the Zuni Pueblo, will face sentencing for his crime. The exact date of sentencing was not specified in the press release.
