Pittsburgh man pleads guilty to re-entering the US after deportation.
Glenmore Almando Carey, a 45-year-old citizen of Jamaica, pleaded guilty in federal court to a charge of Illegal Reentry After Deportation, announced United States Attorney David J. Hickton.
In connection with the guilty plea, the court was advised that Carey was previously removed from the United States by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement on May 10, 2005. However, he was found to be living in Pittsburgh on November 17, 2015, by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Homeland Security Investigations.
Assistant United States Attorney Shardul S. Desai is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government. The Immigration and Customs Enforcement – Enforcement Removal Operation conducted the investigation that led to the prosecution of Carey.
Carey’s guilty plea was accepted by Chief United States District Judge Joy Flowers Conti. Sentencing for Carey is scheduled for January 6, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. The law provides for a total sentence of 20 years in prison, a fine of $250,000.00, or both.
The Federal Sentencing Guidelines will determine the actual sentence imposed based on the seriousness of the offense and Carey’s prior criminal history, if any. This case is a prime example of the consequences of re-entering the country after being deported.
Glenmore Almando Carey’s case is a reminder that immigration laws are in place for a reason and re-entering the country after deportation comes with severe consequences.
