Samuel Quib-Chub, Illegal Re-Entry After Deportation, Pennsylvania 2024

PITTSBURGH, PA – Samuel Quib-Chub, 28, of Mexico, has been sentenced to time served and deportation after pleading guilty to Illegal Re-Entry After Deportation. The case, prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Pennsylvania, highlights a persistent pattern of ignoring U.S. immigration law.

United States District Judge Arthur J. Schwab delivered the sentence yesterday, also including one year of supervised release. Quib-Chub’s history with ICE is extensive; he was formally removed from the United States on four separate occasions – June 17, 2015, May 18, 2016, May 26, 2016, and June 1, 2016. Each removal should have been a clear signal, but Quib-Chub continued to flout the law.

The arrest that led to this conviction stemmed from an incident on January 24, 2017, in Penn Hills, Pennsylvania. Penn Hills Police Department officers took Quib-Chub into custody after responding to reports of aggravated assault, simple assault, and harassment. It was during this arrest that his illegal presence in the country was confirmed.

Assistant United States Attorney Adam N. Hallowell spearheaded the prosecution, building a solid case based on Quib-Chub’s repeated violations of federal immigration law. While the sentence is “time served,” the accompanying deportation order ensures Quib-Chub will be returned to Mexico. The question remains: will this finally stick?

Acting United States Attorney Soo C. Song emphasized the importance of collaboration with federal agencies in tackling immigration-related crimes. “This case demonstrates our commitment to enforcing our nation’s immigration laws and working with our partners at U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE),” Song stated. ICE’s investigation was crucial to securing the conviction.

Grimy Times will continue to monitor this case and report on any further developments. The lenient sentence raises questions about the effectiveness of current penalties for repeat offenders, but the deportation order provides a degree of accountability. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing challenges facing law enforcement along the nation’s borders and within its communities.
