Glynnwood Derrick, Conspiracy to Possess with Intent to Distribute Fentanyl, Texas 2020

Fentanyl trafficking has reached epidemic levels in the United States, and one man’s alleged involvement in the deadly trade has landed him in federal court.

Glynnwood Derrick, 38, of Beaumont, Texas, was charged with conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute fentanyl, a Schedule II controlled substance, according to court documents.

The case, United States v. Chunn, was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas on January 15, 2020, with a docket number of 1:20-cr-00083.

A grand jury indicted Derrick, who was 38 at the time, on January 29, 2020, accusing him of conspiring to distribute fentanyl from January 2018 to November 2019.

Derrick’s alleged co-conspirators were not named in the indictment.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Texas led the investigation, with assistance from the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Beaumont Police Department.

Attorneys representing Derrick include Russell James Wright, Bethany Jane Lipman, Rebecca Rakatansky Dunnan, Ryan Lee Matuska, and Christopher Thomas Rapp.

No sentencing information was available at press time.

Fentanyl trafficking has become a major concern in the United States, with the DEA reporting a surge in overdose deaths linked to the synthetic opioid.

As the nation grapples with the opioid crisis, cases like Derrick’s serve as a reminder of the devastating consequences of fentanyl trafficking.
