Jonathan Gonzalez-Reyes, Production of Child Pornography, California 2024

SANTA ANA, CA – Jonathan Gonzalez-Reyes, 39, of Anaheim, will spend the next 276 months in federal prison after being convicted of a sickening crime: befriending a 13-year-old girl, plying her with alcohol while she was already under the influence of Xanax, and sexually assaulting her. The attack was documented with photographs and videos, transforming a horrific act into exploitable child pornography. Judge David O. Carter delivered the sentence today, also ordering Gonzalez-Reyes to pay $3,000 in restitution to the victim.

The case, a product of a three-day federal trial concluded on April 30, saw a jury find Gonzalez-Reyes guilty on multiple counts: one count of production of child pornography, two counts of distribution of child pornography, and one count of possession of child pornography. He’s been cooling his heels in federal custody since June 2024, awaiting justice that finally arrived today. The details are particularly disturbing.

Prosecutors laid out a grim timeline. In February 2021, Gonzalez-Reyes teamed up with Nanci Jasmin Castillo, 32, of Anaheim, to target “Minor Victim 1.” At Castillo’s residence, the pair subjected the girl to sexual assault after providing her with alcohol, compounding the abuse given her prior ingestion of Xanax. The victim’s vulnerability was cruelly exploited, and the entire ordeal was captured on camera. This wasn’t a spontaneous act; it was premeditated and documented.

Law enforcement’s investigation uncovered a trove of depravity. A search of Gonzalez-Reyes’ phone and Castillo’s iCloud account revealed the existence of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) depicting the victim and both defendants. Evidence further showed Gonzalez-Reyes actively distributing these images to Castillo, spreading the harm and perpetuating the abuse. In September 2021, Gonzalez-Reyes used a cellphone to knowingly possess and distribute images of the same victim, fully aware they depicted a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct.

Castillo, also in federal custody since June 2024, previously pleaded guilty to one count of production of child pornography on February 5. On July 28, Judge Carter handed her a 20-year federal prison sentence and ordered her to pay $3,000 in restitution. This case highlights the coordinated effort needed to bring predators like Gonzalez-Reyes and Castillo to justice, and the lasting trauma inflicted on young victims.

The FBI spearheaded the investigation, receiving crucial assistance from the Anaheim Police Department, the Los Angeles Regional Human Trafficking Task Force, the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services, and ZOE International. Assistant United States Attorneys Chelsea Norell and Blake Hannah of the Major and General Crimes Sections, respectively, prosecuted the case, ensuring accountability for this heinous crime. The Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and report on similar instances of exploitation and abuse.
