Koby Eldridge, Gun Possession with Loaded Firearms, Indiana 2024

A Goshen man is headed to prison after being caught with an arsenal of loaded firearms, despite a previous mental health adjudication that prohibited him from owning guns.

Koby Eldridge, 31, of Goshen, Indiana, was sentenced to 84 months in prison by United States District Court Judge Damon R. Leichty, following a guilty plea to possessing a firearm after being adjudicated mentally defective.

The charges against Eldridge stem from a May 2023 incident, in which he was found to be in possession of five loaded firearms recovered from his car, as well as another loaded firearm and over 1,000 rounds of ammunition seized from his residence.

Eldridge’s troubles with the law began in February 2021, when he was adjudicated incompetent to stand trial in Elkhart Superior Court and committed to a mental institution. Despite this, he continued to possess firearms, which is a clear violation of his mental health adjudication.

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, with assistance from the Goshen Police Department, the Elkhart Police Department, and the Elkhart Sheriff’s Department. Assistant United States Attorney Joel Gabrielse prosecuted the case.

The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in communities across the country. PSN brings together law enforcement and community organizations to prevent violence and make neighborhoods safer.

Eldridge’s sentence includes 84 months in prison, followed by 3 years of supervised release. His case serves as a reminder of the importance of adhering to mental health adjudications and the consequences of violating them.
