Christopher Gostick, Child Pornography, New York 2024

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Christopher Gostick, 30, of Lancaster, New York, is staring down a potential lifetime of regret – and a lengthy prison sentence. The repeat offender pleaded guilty today to receiving child pornography, a charge carrying a mandatory minimum of 15 years behind bars and a maximum of 40, alongside a hefty $250,000 fine. This isn’t Gostick’s first dance with the law concerning the exploitation of children; he was previously convicted in August 2019 on a state charge of Attempted Possessing a Sexual Performance by a Child Less than 16.

The latest case unfolded after a disturbing series of events on June 9th and 10th, 2023. Gostick attended a sleepover birthday party where he allegedly kissed a nine-year-old victim (Minor Victim 1) on the lips. The incident was reported by the child to her parents, prompting a police response. Officers seized Gostick’s cellular telephones and a tablet, and what they found was sickening.

A forensic review of Gostick’s devices revealed a surreptitiously recorded video of Minor Victim 1 using the bathroom. But the depravity didn’t stop there. Law enforcement also uncovered a screen recording of a Snapchat conversation between Gostick and a second minor victim (Minor Victim 2), then 10 years old. Gostick, posing as an 11-year-old female, actively solicited sexually explicit content from the child – and received it. The investigation further unearthed approximately 613 images and two additional videos depicting child pornography on Gostick’s devices.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Douglas A. C. Penrose, prosecuting the case, laid out the grim details for U.S. District Judge Richard J. Arcara, emphasizing the gravity of Gostick’s repeated offenses. The investigation was a joint effort between Homeland Security Investigations, led by Special Agent-in-Charge Matthew Scarpino, and the Buffalo Police Department, under the direction of Commissioner Joseph Gramaglia. This wasn’t a case of passively receiving illicit material; Gostick actively sought out and created it, exploiting vulnerable children in the process.

Gostick’s guilty plea is a small victory, but the damage is done. The focus now shifts to sentencing, scheduled for October 4, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. before Judge Arcara. While a lengthy prison term is virtually assured given the mandatory minimum, it remains to be seen if the judge will impose the maximum 40-year sentence. One thing is certain: Christopher Gostick will have ample time to reflect on the horrific choices that brought him to this point.

Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and provide updates as they become available. This case serves as a stark reminder of the predators lurking in our communities and the importance of vigilance in protecting our children.
