Christopher Diiorio, Impersonating a Secret Service Agent, Pennsylvania 2024

Christopher Diiorio, 53, of Greensburg, Pennsylvania, admitted in federal court to impersonating a United States Secret Service agent — a brazen fraud that included flashing fake badges, lying to law enforcement, and scamming his way into discounted hotel stays.

Diiorio pleaded guilty to one count of fraudulent use of official seals before U.S. District Judge Nora Barry Fischer in Pittsburgh. The charge stems from a scheme in which he conspired with others to fabricate Secret Service identification cards and wielded them as if he had federal authority.

Court documents reveal Diiorio flashed an imitation Secret Service badge to a hotel manager to secure a government rate on a room — a small perk he felt entitled to, despite having no badge, no badge, and no business pretending he was a federal agent. His performance didn’t stop there.

He later confronted a local police officer, again claiming to be a Secret Service agent, and displayed the counterfeit ID. The encounter raised immediate red flags, triggering an investigation that peeled back layers of deception orchestrated by Diiorio and his co-conspirators.

The U.S. Secret Service led the probe that brought Diiorio to justice. Assistant U.S. Attorney Paul E. Hull is prosecuting the case, which could land Diiorio behind bars for up to five years. He faces a maximum fine of $250,000, or both.

Sentencing is scheduled for March 9, 2017. Under federal guidelines, the final sentence will hinge on the severity of the offenses and Diiorio’s criminal history. For now, the message is clear: fake badges don’t grant real power — just real consequences.
