PITTSBURGH – Greensburg, Pennsylvania native Ryan Jay Mason, 39, is facing a decade-plus behind bars after being indicted for violating federal narcotics laws. The grim indictment, filed by the U.S. Attorney Scott W. Brady, alleges that Mason possessed methamphetamine with intent to distribute on December 20, 2018, and January 25, 2019.
The severity of Mason’s alleged crime is underscored by the potential sentence of 5 to 60 years in federal prison, a fine up to $6 million, or a combination of both. The actual sentence could exceed ten years depending on the specifics of the case and Mason’s prior criminal history.
Assistant United States Attorney Michael Leo Ivory will lead the prosecution against Mason. The investigation that led to the Indictment was a collaborative effort involving the United States Postal Inspection Service, Greensburg Police Department, Westmoreland County Sheriff’s Office, and Latrobe Police Department.
Mason is now facing a future of uncertainty as an indictment is merely an accusation, and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty. However, the charges are grave, and if convicted, Mason’s life could be dramatically altered.
Under federal law, the sentence imposed will take into account the gravity of the offenses and any previous criminal history of the defendant.
This case serves as a stark reminder of the consequences faced by those who traffic in illegal substances like methamphetamine, which continues to plague communities across the United States.
