New Bern, N.C. – In a shocking turn of events, Greer Old, also known as ‘Ghost’, 26, has been sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for his role in a violent crime spree in North Carolina.
According to court documents, Old, along with Daniel Reaves, also known as ‘Goon’, 22, was involved in a string of violent crimes that left one victim severely injured. The crimes included a robbery, a shootout with police, and the possession of multiple firearms and narcotics.
The violent crime spree began on August 9, 2018, when Old, Reaves, and Brittany Moses planned to rob a former boyfriend of Moses of heroin in a parking lot in Wilmington. Moses lured him into her car, where Old and Reaves entered with firearms and demanded the heroin. The victim was pistol whipped several times and shot in the arm before being pushed out of the car and abandoned on Klein Road in Wilmington.
On August 11, 2018, the Wilmington Police Department received a tip that Old and Reaves were driving the same car used in the robbery near the Travel Inn Motel in Wilmington. Officers attempted to stop the car, but Old refused to stop and instead drove at a high rate of speed and ran a stop light before losing control of the vehicle. Both men fled on foot, and Old discharged a firearm at a Wilmington Police Officer who was attempting to arrest him.
Old was eventually found hiding in bushes on the property of St. John’s Episcopal Church and was apprehended by police. A gun that had been reported stolen earlier that day was found in close proximity to Old. During a search of their car, law enforcement found a .25 caliber handgun, a .380 caliber handgun, 16 grams of methamphetamine, and 438 doses of Xanax.
Old is a validated member of the Folk Nation gang and was on probation for Conspiracy to Commit Common Law Robbery at the time of the offenses. Reaves, also a validated member of the Folk Nation gang, was apprehended in Kentucky and was on probation for a North Carolina State Felony.
Moses previously received a sentence of 105 months in federal court for Conspiracy to commit Hobbs Act Robbery, Hobbs Act Robbery (aiding and abetting) and Discharging a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence (aiding and abetting).
Michael Easley, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina, made the announcement after sentencing by U.S. District Judge Louise W. Flanagan. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Wilmington Police Department investigated the case, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Timothy Severo and Charity Wilson prosecuted the case.
